Wisdom
Hi friends! I have had a very enjoyable couple of days of rest. How was your weekend? As summer is approaching activities with my kids are picking up. What is supposed to be a “summer break” seems to turn into a whirl wind of sports, sleepovers and constant activities. While those are all good things, I find myself needing to protect my kiddos from exhaustion that they don’t even realize will happen.
As a parent we are called to lead, protect and guide our children, but where we get our wisdom from is key. The majority of us will raise our children with similar habits and patterns as those who raised us. We tend to gravitate towards what’s familiar. My thoughts are, after all, I turned out ok, so they should too. But I want to encourage each of us to take it a step further. While it’s not bad to carry on traditions or habits of those who raised us, we have to make sure we are actively looking to scripture to lead us through all the things. It needs to be our “how-to” book. How to develop character, how to handle conflict, and how to live out our lives.
I was reading in Romans 1:20-23 “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that we are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.”
If you read further, it says so God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts. What!! Sisters, the Bible is very clear, easy to access and spells it out for us. So why is it so challenging to carve out time to read it? We continue to follow society norms and claim to be wise, but are we retaining the knowledge of God? Do we daily try to not only “do what’s right” but do what is pleasing in the eyes of our Heavenly Father?
When I have the most peace is when I’m daily in my bible, spending time with the Lord. I find that time with my Heavenly Father recharges me and helps me to be able to better lead and encourage others. If we don’t know what the bible says, then we cannot share sound advice to others, including our children.
Do you have a daily routine that makes God a priority? I want to implore that if you don’t, you need to think about how you can. Friends, this is more important than exercise, showering, eating and all the other things we claim we “have to do.” Jesus is the only way. Everyone, whether we recognize it or not, crave the peace and joy of the Heavenly Father.
Lord, I pray for more time with you. Father, help us to see that you are our living water. That like the physical water, if we don’t have you then our souls dry up. Our hearts become hard. God help us to see that we need you. Thank you for never leaving. It’s in your name I pray, Amen.
