The Greatest Gift
It is the week of Christmas! This year Christmas likely looks different for most. I will have to say there are some in our family that are social distancing more than others. I know for me I still need to figure out what I will be preparing for my family to eat. I have successfully wrapped most presents. This year we also had the opportunity to give to another family which was an answered prayer. I hope to be able to serve with some friends at project Dayton in coming years. What are some areas you enjoy serving?
Although it is the week of Christmas, there are likely still things that you need to get done. The question is are you doing these tasks with a joyful heart? It is easy to get bogged down with the to do list and miss out on the blessings that come with the actual doing. It’s a matter of the heart and if we are going through the motions, but our hearts do not reflect that of Jesus then we are missing out.
Jesus said in John 13:34 “I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too should love one another.” God created us to be in relationship with one another. Not only that, but he commands us to love one another because God first loved us. God gave us the best gift of all Jesus. This is what Christmas symbolizes. Our redeemer born in a manger. He came to this world so he could feel what we feel and experience what we experience. Have you ever gone through something and you feel like only people who have gone through it understand? Most of us have. Well friends, Jesus has been through it all and more. There is nothing that he has not felt or lived. He can relate to us all and wants desperately to have a relationship with us.
Whatever the busyness is for you this season, make sure you pause to thank your creator. He is the beginning and the end. The everlasting King and Prince of Peace. No matter what your situation is, bring it to him. Our Emmanuel, God with us. He is our gift and one that no one can take from us.
Heavenly Father, thank you for meeting us where we are. You sent Jesus to dwell on earth and experience earthly things. We are so grateful. Be with us this Christmas. Help us to not to just go through the motions, but to also feel your presence and experience the joy you bring to this season. We pray for continued healing and protection. In Jesus name, Amen.
